How Does Dental Insurance Work?
To eliminate any confusion it is extremely important that all patients understand how their Dental Insurance works. Depending on the procedure needed, some insurance companies pay the same percentage for coverage no matter who you see. The difference is that In-network dentists are contractually obligated to accept specific insurance fees while these charges may be different for Out-Network dentist.
In order to maximize the full potential of your dental insurance benefits, it is equally important to take advantage of all your available annual coverage.“Use It Or Lose It”
Understand Your Benefits
Most dental insurance companies break down their benefit levels into three categories; Preventative, Basic and Major. It is very important to have an overall understanding of your own dental benefits before you get your treatment.
✓ Preventative services consist of prophylaxis (cleaning), dental evaluations (check ups), and X-Rays. The majority of insurance plans cover these services at 100%.
✓ Basic services include fillings, root canals, periodontal procedures as well as oral surgery and are mostly covered at 70-80%.
✓ Major services are crowns, bridges, dentures and implants all of which require more time for restoration or adjustment. These services are covered at 40-50%.
